Seville to Gibraltar

We had quite an adventure finding our hotel in Seville, Spain.  Our flight from Lyon arrived at around after 10pm, so it was quite late by the time we had all our bags and got the car organised.  The car had a GPS which spoke in English, but I am not convinced that GPS is the best way to navigate a new city.  We were ready to throw her out the window if she told us she was recalculating the route one more time.  At one stage when we were trying to work out which direction we should be going in the police stopped to help us.  They said, “follow us” which we did until they admitted they were lost too!

We slept late in the morning, but we were by no means the last to breakfast.  After breakfast we set out (by cab this time😉) to explore a little of the old city.  The taxi took us straight to la Giralda and the Holy Cathedral.  These remarkable buildings date back to the 12th and 14th Century respectively – so this is ‘heritage’.

It was hot after our stay in France, so we walked past the queue to the Alcázar and down to the river to find some shade.  We walked along the river and through Maria Luisa Park to Spain Square (it sounds better in Spanish – Plaza de Espána).  Another beautiful landmark.  As we walked around we came across a flamenco dancer and her band.  The girls were amazed by the dancing.

We made our way back to la Giralda via some back streets where we found a tapas bar and icecream shop.  Refuelled, we walked back to where we started, jumped in another cab and whizzed back to the hotel where we had left our rental car.  Time to drive to the boat!

Raftkin is moored in Gibraltar, approximately 3 hours drive south of Seville.  The drive was fantastic – no GPS recalculating required!  I was amazed by the similarities between the Spanish countryside and Australia.  We arrived in Gibraltar in the early evening and squeezed our way through the busy streets down to the marina.  Hayley and Megan were so excited (I may have been too!) and tried to run with cello and violin in hand.

Hello Raftkin!
