Long haul

Its a long way to Lyon

Hayley and Megan now understand that catching an aeroplane is not always the most exciting thing in the world. France is a lot further away than New Zealand, especially when your in-flight entertainment gives up half way across the globe!!

We had a busy Monday morning 11 September as we repacked bags, culled more clothing, books etc to get our bag weight down to 90 kg. We had time for a quick cup of coffee before we headed out to the airport, then we were off.

24 hours later at Heathrow we discovered our flight to Lyon was cancelled and we had a 12 hour wait, from 7am to 7pm. What to do? Clear customs and catch the Heathrow Express into Paddington Station. We jumped on a double decker tourist bus and did a 3 hour tour of the London sites, including Marble Arch, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace.

Back at Heathrow the lack of sleep was starting to catch up and we all kept falling asleep as soon as we sat down. We were soon on board our flight and in no time at all we arrived in Lyon. A few dramas trying to find the hotel (Year 7 French was failing me...) but oh so sweet to be horizontal :).
When woke up we were in France and the long haul flight was already fading from memory - especially when there are freshly baked croissants for breakfast!
